In a surprise move yesterday, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring revoked recognition by Virginia of the concealed weapons permits of 25 other states. He did so because he said that some of these holders would not be eligible to carry under Virginia's concealed weapons laws. He furthur explained that this move was designed to keep stalkers, fugitives, drug dealers from obtaining weapons elsewhere and from concealing them here in Virginia. The plan, he says, is to keep Virginians safer, and he specifically quoted a desire to keep Virginia law enforcement safer. This change will become effective on February 1, 2016.
This means that a reciprocity agreement no longer exists between Virginia and the following states. This means that if you, as a Virginian traveled to these places with your concealed weapon and your license, that you may no longer do so. These states are :
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Wyoming and North Dakota
The states whose permits are no longer recognized by Virginia include:
Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Maybe it's just me. It seems as if the Democrats specifically have declared war on the Second Amendment. All this means to me is that while traveling out of state, it will be much more difficult for my family and I to be protected and to have my weapon present when it's needed. Law abiding people are going to be the ones who don't have their defensive weapon with them when it's most needed ! How many people who do business in Virginia are going to decide that without their defensive weapon and with an uptick in terrorism, that doing business in Virginia isn't worth it ? Can Virginia afford that kind of a loss in revenue ? I know a lot of people who absolutely will not vacation in a place where they are not permitted to carry their concealed weapon, and this is why they got a concealed weapons permit in the first place. Can we afford this type of a hit to Virginia tourism ? Things don't look economically very healthy here to me.
What does this mean to you ? Does this mean you need to join a pro gun rights organization and take the removal of gun rights more seriously ? Is this a trend coming to your own state soon ? Does this mean you can no longer travel safely state to state, and need to spend your money at home instead ? If you are a Virginian, then you should contact your representatives immediately and give them your input with regard to this matter.
Americans must stand up for the rights they once had or watch them be taken one by one. Wake up now, or find yourself in a position where you are unable to defend yourself and your family, from either Islamic extremism, domestic terrorism, or local thugs and thieves.
